ALENIA AERMACCHI M 346 MASTER
HISTOIRE
In 1992, the Italian firm Aermacchi concludes an industrialization partnership with the Russian company Yakovlev in order to develop basic training aircraft and Yak-130 advanced training. A year earlier, Russia had launched a program to replace its L-39 Albatros. The device would allow the conversion of pilots on MiG-29 Fulcrum and Su-27 Flanker. The first flight of YAK-130 goes back to April 26, 1996. In 2000, the agreement between the two companies ended and each developed an independent unit. The Italian group launched into a native version of the device, under the designation M-346.
Aermacchi therefore developed its M-346 Master mainly for advanced pilot training. This is therefore a smaller western variant that Yakovlev Yak-130 Russian manufacturer. In addition, the M-346 uses equipment exclusively from Western manufacturers. This aircraft made its maiden flight on 15 July 2004.
The Aermacchi M-346 looks like a delta wing monoplane constructed mainly of aluminum alloy. The horizontal stabilizer is fully mobile and device, two-seater tandem is based on a tricycle landing gear. The two reactors Klimov DV-2S Yak-130 were replaced by Honeywell / ITEC F124-GA-200 2880 kgf products under license by Fiat-Avio. It is also equipped with ejection seats "zero-zero" Martin-Baker Mk 16D and a HUD (Head Up Display).
The Master M-346 is a typical configuration with two seats, the instructor back high up and the trainee before. For training, a programmable digital Fly-by-Wire device takes into account the level of the student and to simulate the behavior of different types of aircraft. The armament is placed on 3 points under each wing for a capacity of 1800 kg and on rails wingtip to-air missiles. A removable inner container can be carried under each wing, a conveyor drum under the fuselage and flight refueling boom is expected in option.
Alenia Aermacchi proposed until now the Aermacchi MB-339 for the training of fighter pilots. But the new M-346 Master is better able to prepare pilots to almost all modern jets currently in production such as the Eurofighter, Rafale, the F / A-18 E / F Super Hornet, and even those of the fifth generation as the F-22 Raptor.
In 2009, the first air force to equip Master was logically the Italian Air Force has ordered 6 of these aircraft with an option for 9 more. Also in 2009, a $ 48 M-346 was confirmed by the United Arab Emirates. A majority of these aircraft will be assembled at Mubadala, Abu Dhabi.
In 2010, the RSAF (Republic of Singapore Air Force) has ordered 12 copies to replace its A-4SU Super Skyhawk. These are deployed airbase BA 120 Cazaux in France. Finally, in 2012, Israel chooses the unit to renew its fleet by ordering 30 M-346 Master.
Italian trainer aircraft has already experienced a loss. During his participation at the Dubai Airshow 2011, an M-346 crashed into the sea off Dubai shortly after takeoff, en route to Italy.
The M-346 is also available as light attack aircraft. In this configuration, the Master has nine hardpoints for a variety of weapons, bombs, missiles and rockets.
